The Maker Writer Desk

Made to order, 6 week lead time. Non-refundable

Inspired by a Louis XVI style table, master blacksmith Olivier Le Clerc hand forged this steel desk in France for The Maker Hotel. This desk strikes the perfect balance between delicate and industrial, with its sensuous lines and customized dark patina finish. The perfect accent piece for a bedroom, library or entry.
When our founder Lev discovered Oliver’s work; he was astounded with his talent to make hard steel look like carved wood. They collaborated to create custom pieces for The Maker found throughout the property and in nearly every guest room. We especially adore the desk, as this versatile piece works in nearly every space, with every design style.
Olivier Le Clerc, is a true master blacksmith based in France. He uses his signature technique of forging and shaping round steel pipes that leads to lighter furniture. Every piece is shaped by hand through an intricate process. He’s inspired by Louis XVI, Art Deco, French Art Nouveau, classical furniture, industrial contemporary design, and Jules Verne literature.

Olivier Le Clerc

Olivier Le Clerc first learned to work with steel while studying at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris. After graduating, he continued his training with a more traditional technical apprenticeship at a wrought iron and cutlery manufacturer. He then became head blacksmith at the medieval site of Guédelon, before opening, in 2011, his own workshop near Sancerre in central France. Combining traditional heritage techniques with technical ingenuity Le Clerc has gained widespread recognition for his work, winning several regional awards and national prizes.
